Do you think Turkey has place in Europe?

I really want to hear your "honest" ideas about Turkey and the Europe. "Do you think Turkey has a place in Europe"?

Why and Why not?

Looking forward to hear your opinions...

BRAVO Giovanni!
Useful information on: "Turkey in Europe"

Turkey in Europe: More than a Promise?
(Copyright © www.soros.org/)

In March 2004, a group of concerned Europeans, deeply committed to the European integration process and having held high public office, formed the Independent Commission on Turkey. Supported by the Open Society Institute and the British Council, the Commission's purpose was to explore the major challenges and opportunities connected with Turkey’s possible accession to the European Union. They met regularly for intensive discussions, visited Turkey, and analyzed expertise from various sources.

This report, available to download in six languages, presents the findings of the Independent Commission on Turkey. The Commission hopes to contribute to a more objective and rational debate on Turkey’s accession to the European Union, which is considered one of the major challenges for Europe in the coming years.

Very nice films, but: they only show the possitive effects of Turkey.

I don`t think that it is a good idea to let Turkey join the european union. They have big proplems in realizing the human rights. It`s called european union, and not eurasian union. What do you think will be the result when Turkey joins the EU? all contries will have to send soldiers to the east border of Turkey - just remember, which countries there are and which problems occure.

And even this cointries in the Eu, which get now a days a lot of money from the EU, will have to pay. Maybe people from Spain don`t want to hear it, but now they are getting money, but when Turkey comes also to the european union, they also will have to pay.

I can`t find anything by the way which is a possitive thing on the EU. We have one currency and you can buy and sell your things were you want. But for whom is that good? This system brings us just to the rules of the US. There will be some big companies like Siemens, which profit from the EU and also from Turkey in the EU. All the common people and small companies get problems, their live is getting harder and harder. Just think of the problems in job finding. Here in Austria lot`s of people come from Hungary and work for less than an Austrian could do - even if he or she wants it, because live is expensiver here.

And this process will go on. With every country, that joins the EU, the other countries will get poorer and poorer. It`s a way of splitting the richness up to all countries, but only the mega companies profit from that.

Best Regards,
Hermann

Turkey is actually located in the Middle East, not the Far East.Turkey is still illegally occupying the northern part of Cyprus, which is a member state of both the European Union & the British Commonwealth. The New Zealand Government maintains diplomatic relations with a lot of repressive regimes,of which Turkey is one.Turkey's culture is not even a European one.Albania,Bosnia-Hercegovina,& Kosovo do qualify for European Union membership,as they are located in Europe, even though a majority of people in these 3 countries are Muslims.
